Loan sharks

Watched 'Ah Long Pte Ltd' with my mum and younger bro last night. Didn't have a choice anyways, 'cause they both wanted to watch it.. 2 against 1. Plus my dad "booked" the telly upstairs.

It was pretty worth it though. We had a really good laugh all throughout the movie, but that's what Jack Neo's movies are famous for right? This, I think, was the first time that he ever had both Singaporean and Malaysian actors in his movie.

Anyways, we all liked Mark Lee's character, JoJo Fang a.k.a. Mr Fang. He's a straight but sissy-fied, naive and a-bit-the-bodoh guy, who's always teased for his effeminity but tries to prove that he's really masculine. He's a dance instructor cum image stylist, turned PR and consultant to the Shao He Triad, which is lead by his wife, Li Hua (played by Fann Wong). He's the one who contributes to most of the humor in the movie.

The wedding photo..

All in all, I guess this movie is only good because of the humor and its relativity. Some parts of it is somewhat draggy and ends up boring. But the humor always pulls it back up.

So anyways, watch it if you want to. But I must warn you that you must have a basic knowledge in Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien. If you don't then no point watching 'cause if you don't understand what's being said in a movie, why watch? Right?

Hey.. I do have a basic knowledge in those three languages, okay. I'm not that much of a "banana" as you think I am. So I did understand the dialogues.. shut up.

Darren out.

Ah Long Pte Ltd

"Ah Long Pte Ltd" is a light-hearted black comedy about the triad world and the money-lending business. The movie takes on a humorous and sarcastic treatment on the underworld.

It depicts how a young lady, Li Hua tries to restructure her triad, the Shao He Triad, and the "ah long (money-lenders) system" into a professional and 'loving' one that stands against the use of violence after she takes over from her triad leader who retired. Her various restructuring plans, which are no doubt very creative, bring about hilarious results. However, this restructuring was met with opposition from the majority of the "elders" in both her own and rival triads.

Li Hua also suffers a nagging mother who constantly pressures her to get married. She finally relented and proposed to Mr. Fang, an effeminate dance instructor cum image stylist. Surprised to many and even herself, Mr. Fang accepted the proposal, wanting to prove his masculinity. Subsequently, Mr. Fang offers to help Li Hua out by introducing creative ways to reduce violent methods of debt collection. The unusual union, despite the misfits, soon blossom into love.
